Welcome Break Charitable Fund supports outdoor adventure for thousands of local young people

Thousands of young people will have greater opportunities to experience outdoor adventure thanks to a £12,536 grant from the Welcome Break Charitable Fund to local charity Action4Youth.

Nicola Marshall, People Director at Welcome Break and Chair of the Welcome Break Charitable Fund visited The Caldecotte Xperience in Milton Keynes to present the cheque and see first-hand how the funding will help young people build confidence, develop new skills and enjoy outdoor activity.

The grant will fund new and replacement watersports equipment, including wetsuits, buoyancy aids, water sports helmets, paddleboards and electric pumps.

Around 12,000 children and young people use The Caldecotte Xperience each year, including approximately 2,000 with disabilities or additional needs. Its facilities, specialist equipment and trained staff enable young people of different abilities to take part in activities together, helping to remove some of the barriers that can prevent young people from experiencing outdoor adventure.

Benedicta Morrow, CEO of Action4Youth, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Welcome Break Charitable Fund for this generous support.

“Outdoor adventure gives young people the chance to challenge themselves, discover what they are capable of and build confidence that they can take back into their everyday lives. Having the right equipment is essential to making those opportunities accessible to as many young people as possible, particularly those with additional needs.”

The Caldecotte Xperience offers outdoor learning and adventure activities including climbing, abseiling, sailing, kayaking, raft building and other watersports. It also supports Action4Youth programmes working with young people experiencing disadvantage and delivers Duke of Edinburgh expeditions.

Nicola Marshall, People Director at Welcome Break and Chair of the Welcome Break Charitable Fund said: “At Welcome Break, we have over 6,000 colleagues across the UK and welcome around 85 million customers through our doors every year, so supporting the communities we are part of really matters to us.

“Being able to give £12,536 to Action4Youth means local children and young people can have experiences they might not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy. That impact in local communities is at the heart of the Welcome Break Charitable Fund.”
