Action4Youth is delighted to announce a new partnership with MyMiltonKeynes, Business Improvement District (MyMK), which will include funding a number of The Breakout Programme and The Inspiration Programme projects in Milton Keynes in 2022 and 2023. The focus of the partnership is to reduce knife crime and gang presence in Milton Keynes, as well as to provide the City’s young people with the necessary skills and inspiration to go on to be productive members of society. This aligns with MyMK strategy of making Milton Keynes a safer place to live and work, plus a thriving business region.
The Breakout Programme is an intensive and unique intervention for children and young people at risk of involvement in gangs and knife crime, currently running in a number of settings throughout Milton Keynes. It will educate young people on dangers of knife and gang crime and equip them with the skills to make positive decisions. By engaging with vulnerable young people at an early age who may be at risk of becoming involved in antisocial activities and addressing behavioural issues, the project will play a crucial part in developing safer and more socially integrated communities across Milton Keynes.
Now in its sixth year, The Inspiration Programme is a 30-week programme for children and young people who are either disengaged with school or need help and vital skills to become inspired and motivated to succeed in life and to secure meaningful employment. The Covid-19 pandemic has hugely magnified the need for the programme, having had a negative impact on social mobility for young people who were already at risk, plus those who previously weren’t, including high achievers. The Inspiration Programme has been designed to improve life chances for ALL children and young people and never has the need been greater.
