Action4Youth News – May 2024

This month we’re putting a spotlight on the incredible individuals who help us make a difference in the lives of young people, “Celebrating People”. So, let’s appreciate the driving forces behind our success, the people who work tirelessly for and with Action4Youth.

The Inspiration Programme

This month, our partner NHBC, led by CEO Steve Wood, welcomed students from The Inspiration Programme including the MK Academy and Aylesbury Vale Academy.

The students, from years 9 to 11, had the opportunity to tour the office, speak to members of the team about their background and why they chose to work for NHBC. They also had a fun and challenging activity to understand the importance of communicating between the teams.

The Inspiration Programme has many benefits:

✨72% increased confidence
✨93% increased aspiration
✨79% increased learning and communication.

Philmore Miller

Philmore Miller, our beloved team member at Action4Youth, is heading off for a well-deserved retirement. After 16 years of dedication, he’s chosen to unwind under the Caribbean sun. We’re incredibly grateful for Philmore’s remarkable contribution to our work with young people over the years.

Xtreme Challenge

In April, we hosted a fun-filled event, the Caldecotte Xtreme Challenge, where our corporate partners ( NHBC, Red Helix and SquareTrade) and fundraisers had to navigate obstacles across land and water, all for charity!

It was all about team-building and raising money for our Capital Appeal, a redevelopment project of the main building and infrastructure at The Caldecotte Xperience. The changes will significantly improve the centre’s accessibility and functionality to create a vibrant, exciting, and adventurous platform for fully inclusive activities for young people in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire and beyond.

Here’s what people had to say about the event:

“We had a great day out at Caldecotte. All the staff members were extremely welcoming and encouraging. The day was organised and we were able to just enjoy the experience. A great team building day and fantastic to see the facilities on offer for the children to benefit from.” – Jacqueline Brown, SquareTrade

Thanks to everyone who participated, we really enjoyed having everyone around.

MK Marathon

An enormous thank you to our trustee Simon Sharkey- Woods, as well as NHBC employees Steve Baker, Luke Carter and Peter Vasey and Darren Long (Careys) and Andrew Hale (Cawleys) for running the MK Marathon 2024. Well done to everyone who took part and for raising over £6,000, we are so grateful for your support.

This will help us to provide our wide range of programmes and activities, all helping children and young people find positive pathways in their lives and enabling them to grow into adults well prepared for the future who will be assets to the community.
