ACTION4YOUTH TAKES OVER THE RUNNING OF OUTDOOR CENTRES!

Milton Keynes Council will hand over the running of two popular outdoor education centres to Action4Youth, next month.

The Council has been working very closely with the Action4Youth Trustees over the past 12 months to put in place arrangements for both the Caldecotte Xperience at Simpson and the Longrigg Residential Centre in Cumbria to transfer.

Both centres have an extensive track record of delivering vibrant and exciting programmes of educational activity for the young people of Milton Keynes, to enhance their personal and social development. This will continue to develop and grow under the ownership of Action4Youth, as from 1st April 2012.

Ken Birkby, Chairman of Action4Youth, said: “We recognise and value all of the work done at Caldecotte and Longrigg for all the young people of Milton Keynes, who have had the chance to take part in outdoor education opportunities at the centres over the past twenty years.

“We have been involved since the initial planning for Caldecotte and have worked in partnership with Milton Keynes Council over all this time to develop and bring in extra resources for outdoor education and participate fully in the management of this centre.

“We will use our expertise to ensure both centres continue to deliver the high quality, varied outdoor education for all the young people of Milton Keynes. The vision of Action4Youth is ‘To help children and young people realise their potential, whatever their life circumstances’ and both Caldecotte and Longrigg have an important part to play in our offer to all young people.”

Paul Sanders, the Council’s Assistant Director, Community Facilities, said: “It will be with somewhat of a heavy heart that we hand over these two outstanding facilities, but in the current climate, we are keen to work in such innovative ways with organisations such as Action4Youth, and we have every confidence in them to deliver outdoor education to the highest possible standard in the future.”
