Community Sports Coach
The Community Sports Coach Scheme (CSCS) is a national initiative aimed at increasing the number and range of coaching opportunities available at a local level and to develop a career structure for coaching. The intended outcome is an increased number of qualified coaches employed at a local level delivering high quality coaching with a focus on young people.
The coach will also endeavour to retain young people in sport by providing guidance on progression opportunities to match their interests and abilities.
A Community Sports Coach is a qualified National Governing Body coach with the relevant experience for the coaching role.
Main Responsibilites
- To coach a range of sporting opportunities at a local level with a focus on FUNdamentals and Learn to Train (or equivalent) development phases of the player pathway
- To prepare and implement well-structured and progressive coaching programmes ensuring a high quality, enjoyable coaching experience centered on the needs of the participants
- To take positive steps to identify and overcome barriers to participation amongst young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, prioritizing access and inclusion
- To support work with clubs and other community groups to ensure that young people are retained in sport through high quality coaching
- To coach within multi-skill / multi-sport clubs and new junior clubs / sections in the community
- To assist in identifying talented young people and encouraging further development via a number of different courses / opportunities
- To be a positive role model, creating a positive and fun environment in which to motivate and encourage young people to participate in sport or physical activity
- To effectively supervise, mentor and direct support staff, volunteers and apprentices, where appropriate
